Dreaming of Gardening in December

I haven't been able to get out of bed much the past two – three days and so I really don't have a topic that I want to share. I know many of you are preparing to celebrate Christmas so you are probably not reading many blogs any way. However, I wanted to share a little bit of gardening advice with you.

Gardening? But it is only the second day of winter we still have five – six months to go before we can plant a garden! Exactly and if you want good seeds then you had best order early. I learned the hard way. So far I have received two catalogs and I can't wait for the others to arrive. I want to get my order in early this year. I missed out on many of our favorites last year because I waited to late (February) to order. So my goal this year is to get my seed order in before January 15th.

We love squash, green onions, broccoli, brussel sprouts and beans. We have a small yard so I use the square foot garden technique Last year was my first year to use it and as with anything it was a learning experience. I plan on using it again this year but with a twist. I am not sure I want to plant the tomatoes in the square foot garden I may plant them; in buckets. This year I will be adding dwarf (or patio) blueberry bushes. I will also plant strawberries again this year but I plant on planting them in the hanging bag. I also plan on planting cucumber next to trellis this year. We are going to use the square foot technique with the 3 Sister technique hopefully we will have better luck with the corn this year.

Well I am headed back to bed and dream of my fresh veggies and fresh berries. Hopefully in a couple of days I will be able to stay up longer so I share with you some of my other gardening hairbrain ideas..
