A Real Housewife

I don’t watch reality TV because it is not reality it is scripted just like the rest of Hollywood. Hollywood as well as some of the talking heads in the mainstream media like Bill Maher would not know reality of it slapped them upside the head. I don’t watch talking head shows either. Again it is not reality it is their opinion just like this blog is my opinion. Any way someone sent me a link to a Fox News article (http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2010/10/18/patrick-dorinson-real-housewives-maher-reality-tv-idaho/) and the link to Bill Maher talking head show where he blast conservatives (http://www.eyeblast.tv/public/video.aspx?v=hdSUprSUqG)

Well I will have to agree with the writer of the Fox News article Patrick Dorinson. The TV show Real Housewives is not me no way no how. First of all I do not drink, nor would I ever think about cat fighting in public. I don’t live on a ranch so I am not like the housewives in Mr. Dorinson article but I do work full time, I do all the cooking, all the grocery shopping, most of the laundry, our boys are grown so they do their own laundry. I pay the bills, and still find time to call my mother once a week - we live 9 hours and 3 states apart and last but not least there is hubby time in there as well. I don’t have manicures or pedicures, my hair is not in the latest fashion style cut nor are my clothes the latest fashions. We pinch pennies and always have more month than money.

I couldn’t agree more Mr. Dorinson, people don’t want reality they want fantasy so they can escape their own reality. I would like to see Hollywood and these talking heads survive a week in reality

Hello and welcome to Muffie’s place. I am a wife, mother, daughter, and sister who has, yet again, entered a new chapter of her life...the empty nest. Hubby and I are enjoying each other and getting to know each other again...We are finally able to look across the table and talk about something other than school, sports activities or the boys in general. We miss our boys dearly but rest in the knowledge that we did our best to rear Godly men and instill in them not only the head knowledge of God but the heart knowledge as well. Now momma has to let go and release them back into God's hands, all I can do now is pray.

Today Life is Good and God is Great. So come along on the journey as I strive to balance work, the empty nest, preparing for retirement and yet finding time to be barefoot and play in my garden. However, in order to live this dream life I have to adhere to a strict budget. This is how I deal with a one salary household (even though we both work we are striving to live on one salary), budget constraints, feed my man that has a manual labor job and at times is a bottomless pit. Bottomless equals empty pantry and freezer, thank goodness it comes in spurts and I get a chance to restock. Also on this strict budget I strive to clothe both of us and buy steel toed work boots (*faint) for as little as possible. Since we have moved to a different region we have a distinct winter and summer so one wardrobe does not work any more. We have to have winter clothes and summer clothes. I have to learn to manage all of this and still make time to have my fun too.

With the boys are all grown and on their own means I can clean my house and it doesn’t look like a locker room or dorm room at the end of the day. You know, I miss that just not the smell. We still get those frantic calls when their month is more than their bank accounts. Hey what is a mom to do let her babies starve? I remember how it was when we first started out, rent, food student loans and the car always breaking down. Life it is full of surprises and in this economy usually those surprises are not that good.

I used to joke that I was born a decade too late that I should've been a hippie but my best friend tells me I am too conservative to be a hippie that I am just a little ol' earth muffin. I have been married to my soul mate over half my life and we have three wonder sons and three beautiful daughters (in-laws.) Most of all I refuse to grow old. So grab a cup of coffee and come along on the journey of budgets, natural herbs and essential oils; living green and leaving a small eco footprint. Oh and lending a helping hand when needed.
