Got Spring Fever and had to plant....

Well I am pushing my luck. This past weekend I went ahead and put out 5 cucumber plants and planted several types of herbs. Since moving north I have a hard time waiting until Mother’s day to plant. I am used to planting on Good Friday. At least I am using a container garden this year so if I see where we will have a freeze I will move them into the kitchen for the night.

I still have 5 sweet banana pepper plants and 12 squash plants but they are still in starter trays. The pepper plants are only about 2 inches high they will need to get a little bigger before they are moved out side. The squash plants are just now starting to sprout. I have 4 okra plants, 4 bell plants and 4 Roma tomato plants that are in starter trays. The okra seems to progressing nicely and will probably go in larger pots this weekend but the tomato and bell pepper are not doing much. I was hoping that the starter trays would be ready to transplant by the end of the month but it doesn’t look like it.

Still have to plant sugar snap peas and bush beans, but will need to make homemade earth boxes for those. Need to find more dish pans before planting the rest of the herbs. I like using dish pans because they are just the right size and you can stack them and make an attractive hodge poge of herbs. I want to try those bags that you plant tomatoes in and let them grow upside down. Don’t know if they work or not, I have heard mixed reviews on them.

Sorry I don’t have pictures I will get them posted soon.

  1. Sounds like your garden is off to a good start! We've started a few things to, but can't do most for another month or two yet.
