Now that summer is over and we are back to normal…well as normal as my family can be LOL. I am going to force myself to do a modified version of once a month cooking. When I get home in the evenings the last thing I want to do is cook. It is not that I don’t know what I am going to cook I just don’t want to head straight to the kitchen. So I am going to force myself to start cooking once a month.
First step is the menus. That is not too bad considering I sort of make a menu each month. Actually I make a list of 30 dinners, 10 lunches and 10 breakfasts (breakfast and lunch is for weekends only.) Lunches during the week are leftovers from the previous evening’s meal. Week day breakfast are usually grab and go foods. My guys have to be up several hours before they will eat. They have always been like that even in school, so I always have granola bars, pop tarts, fruit, and other easy to grab and go foods for them in the mornings.
Step two…the grocery list – this is usually not too bad either considering I am an organize freak when it comes to my pantry and cabinets. Plus I do try to keep inventory list.
Step three …shopping – Can we skip this step? Anyone want to go shopping for me? I hate shopping and no not just for groceries either. I did not come equipped with the shopping gene that most females have, clothes, shoes, cars, food, name it if it involves going to the store (any store) and going through racks and racks of stuff, shelf after shelf of stuff I detest it all.
Step four…unpacking, sorting and storing of food. This is where I wish I had a huge walk in cooler like in restaurants. I could just put everything on the shelf cook then store it.
Step five…prepping. Yes the slicing, dicing and chopping. Not to mention the 20 pounds of ground beef to be browned and the 5 chickens to be cooked and deboned.
Step six…assembling the dish and storing it.
Well folks there’s my game plan now just to make it work. Wish me luck.
