Times are Changing

With the government announcement that they will buy up meat to help the farmers which, I take to mean no good deals for people like you and me at the checkout. With some people that have major influence over our government selling off a truck load of stock and buying gold shares. With the drought that has wiped out the harvest this year and last but not least with gas prices climbing 30 cents in a month it is time to take the bull by the horns...well so to speak.

There will be some changes going on at Muffie's place. So sit down tighten your seat belt and hang on. Muffie is getting a new place. Well in real life actually. This blog will still be here but we are leaving our current place of employment on the east side of North Carolina and buying land in north east Tennessee. The deal on the land is too good to pass up. We will be moving some time during the month of September and you will see it all here. This will be a journal of our move.

We will have a 3 acre mini homestead so I plan on showing you just what can be done on 3 acres. You will see fruit trees being planted. Chicken house being built. Raise bed garden going in along with a some what "standard" garden. There will be a green house as well as the building of a earth friendly home. The home building will take a few years because it will be done as we have the money and we will be building it ourselves...well as much as we can. We are not plumbers or electricians so that will have to be contacted out. But we hope to do at least 75% of the work ourselves.

I turn 50 this year and hubby turns 53. Our youngest just got married and #2 son has announced his engagement. So things are changing in my life. We made the decision to start preparing for retirement and the bumpy road ahead. The money gurus are saying that 2013 and 2014 are going to even rougher than the last 4 years. So we want the security of knowing that the roof over our head is paid for, the land under our feet is paid for and our sons and they families have a plan B if things get really ugly. We will be plan B.

So times are changing. Life as we have known it is no more. Life will be what we make it from now on. We  shifting focus. We are becoming greener and less dependent on society as a whole. We will grow most of our food and what we can't grow we will buy local. If it is not local we will do without except bananas and oranges must have my naners and oranges LOL. We will more self-sufficient and leave a smaller foot print. Our way of thinking is changing, our way of doing things is changing and our way of seeing things has changed.

So as you see times are a changing.
