Along with winterizing the house my thoughts turned to the pick-up truck my husband drives to work. He travels about 75 miles round trip each day to work. He carpools with our oldest soon so he has company along on the ride for which I am thankful. After traveling that road several times myself I got to thinking what he would do if something happen. It is about a 30-45 minute drive to work and where we
are there is NOTHING. I mean once you leave the city limits there are no gas stations no
convenience stores NOTHING well except oil fields and cattle. So I am working on winterizing his truck.
Here is a
list of stuff I am working on. This is a work in progress and I will probably add to it all winter long.
- Mobile charge for his cell phone. Hey at least he finally figured out he has to
charge the thing LOL seriously he is good about making sure it is charged each
night but if he is stranded and has to make a lot of calls I want him to have a
mobile charger in the truck. He just got a new phone and it did not come with a
mobile charger.
- I am thinking 100 pounds of sand in the back to help to help give some added weight on the rear axle for traction.
- 25 pound of cat litter to help give him traction if he
slides off the road in the snow. Maybe an old piece of carpet or that green grass looking stuff you roll out on your patio.
- Water I am thinking a 6 pack of water should do the trick
- Power bars for fast energy and some peanuts.
- I may even throw in a can of sterno and some instant coffee so he can have coffee
while he waits on the tow truck. Oh can’t forget the coffee cup.
- Socks and old pair of boots so he can have dry feet again
- A heavy coat
- Gloves and a toboggan
- Blanket – wool army
blanket if I can find one. These are the best for warmth.
- A GHB (get home bag-this will be another post. I have to work out the details first) one for hubby and one for son.
He would probably already have the coat, gloves and toboggan on him but I am thinking extras in case he got wet so that he could change and not loose body heat.
Do you live in a climate where you have to winterize your mode of transportation? If so what do you do?
