Southern Girl Relearning How to Dress in the Winter

Maybe the title should be “Southern Girl Learning How to Dress in the Winter.” I am learning that at 3000ft it really does not warm up much during the day and 32* is really not as warm as it is at 197ft. I have always heard layer, well my layering is more like a sweat shirt and warm up pants. Or at least it was; now I have a whole new understanding of layering. Two thin layers are way better than one thick layer and socks are my new best friend. Please understand I am a southern girl through and through. Socks are worn with shoes and when you don’t have shoes on then you don’t need socks even in the winter…WRONG!

So I have learned that two thin layers are warmer than one sweat shirt. Sweat pants are warmer than jeans.  Warm up pants with leggings are warmer than jeans with leggings. Cotton/poly pull on pants with leggings are warm also.

Now for socks…this has taken some getting used to because I am not a sock person but if I wear socks my feet stay warm and that is a must for me. If my feet ever get cold I am done for, it will take forever for me to get warm.

So my shopping list for clearance sales is as follows:
Thick wooly socks – hunting socks are awesome!
Camies and lots of them maybe even tank tops
Long sleeve t-shirts
Flannel shirts
Leggings
Warm up pants – with pockets – must have pockets.

I have a whole new respect for people that have real winters. I am used to winters that arrive in February and last for about 10 days at the most with snow every few years. My snow is mostly ice and is gone in a few days. Here the snow is white powder it arrived Christmas day and is still here and more is expected this weekend. Not sure how to deal with winters that arrives in November and hang around until May. I guess my winter jacket will no longer be a hoodie.
