Have you ever had plans for the weekend only at the last
minute have them blasted to bits? Well that was my weekend. I had hoped to go
pick up pecans this weekend and get the piano out of storage so we would not
have to pay another month’s rent on storage but those plans were shot in the
foot with one phone call Friday afternoon. I had been canning the second turkey
and was taking it out of the canner when the call came that the guy would be
here between 9:00 and 10:00 Saturday morning to start work on the floor. Good
news was he should be finished in one day. NOT it was a two day job and the
house is still torn apart.
Ok so now that I have totally lost you let me give you a
little back ground. Last weekend we discovered a leak under our kitchen sink
and it had been leaking for a month. Which means under the cabinet was soaked
the floor boards were soaked and we had a first class mess. First step was to
stop the leak. With that done the floor covering had to be ripped up and the
floor boards replaced. Thank goodness the subflooring was not harmed and only
half of the kitchen floor had to be ripped up.
However, to do all of that everything had to be moved out of
the kitchen, stove, refrigerator, washer, dryer and table and chairs.
Yep the kitchen had to be completely emptied. So I got the bright idea that since the kitchen was empty we could paint…I don’t know what possessed me with that idea but off to the store we went Friday night for paint. I was vetoed on yellow. Needless to say I was heartbroken, I had dreamed of a yellow kitchen since we moved in here but my husband does not like yellow. We agreed on a soft blue. It is ok it is growing on me. It will look good once the trim work is done and the white appliances put back in place. I think the walls will really pop against the white appliances. The cabinets white also.

Today I finished the blue painting and some of the
appliances were put back in the kitchen last night; the refrigerator is still
in the living room but the washer, dryer and stove is back in place. So I can
do laundry and cook today. The trim work still needs to be painted but because it is a dark brown it will have to be removed sanded primed and then painted. So that is hubby's job.
Now I am on the hunt for material to cover the kitchen
chairs with since they are green and don’t match the kitchen. I haven’t found
anything yet. I have decided on white curtains to help brighten the outside
wall. It is brown paneling and the landlord vetoed the painting of that wall so
I am stuck with brown paneling. But it has a big window and I figured white
curtains will brighten that wall just fine.
So I am off to put the kitchen back in order and see if I
can’t get some laundry done. I really need to be a better multi-tasker.
This is the new floor, it is a grayish marble look to it. It looks pretty good with the blue walls. There is just enough contrast to look good.
