
So we have covered grains. Next on our list are Fruits and Nuts. Not only do fruits lower both bad cholesterol and high blood pressure they are highly effective virus fighters. They help stabilize blood sugar and suppress the appetite without robbing the body of necessary nutrients. They can also prevent constipation or help treat diarrhea. Many fruits and nuts go a long way in help fighting cancer also.
Some of the more common fruits and nuts from Biblical times are apples, dates, figs, and grapes. Nuts were usually just owned by Kings. They usually had walnuts, almonds and pistachios groves.
Date Nut Bread
8 oz chopped dates
1 ox dried cranberries
½ cup brown sugar, packed
¼ cup softened butter
¾ cup boiling water
1 egg, well beaten
1 tsp baking soda
1 ¾ cups flour (plain)
½ tsp salt
½ cup chopped almonds or walnuts
Mix dates, cranberries, sugar, butter and boiling water in a large bowl. Stir until butter is melted and sugar well integrated. Let cool, then beat in the egg.
Sift together baking soda, flour and salt. Add to mixture, stirring, not beating. Fold in nuts.
Put mixture in a lightly greased pan and bake for one hour. Cool on rack for 10 minutes, then remove from pan. Serve when completely cool.
