The people of Biblical times ate the whole grain. They would gather the wheat, then thrash it to get the wheat berries off and then the way they would glean it would be to lay it on large sheets and toss it in the air and the shaft would blow away in the wind and the berries would fall back on the sheet. That my friend is what they ate…the WHOLE berry.
They would eat it raw or cracked. They would take mortars ad pestles and (which back then was basically two rocks) and grind the wheat in to flour so they could make bread out of it.
Even those of us that buy wheat berries and grind our on flour are still lacking compared to their flour. You see they got the outer shell of the wheat. Our wheat berries have that removed it is called wheat bran. Don’t get me wrong whole wheat flour is better than bleached flour and grinding your own wheat is better than buying whole wheat flour. What I am trying to say is our “modern conveniences” have (in some cases) done us more harm than good.
Tomorrow we discuss other grains.
